FAIRYTALE PHOTOSHOOTS
PRINCESS LOCATIONS
Locations That Do Not Require Additional Payment
San Francisco City Hall
City: San Francisco
Cost To Shoot: $0
Hours: Mon-Fri 8:00 AM - 6:00 PM
PROS: Beautiful location for the princess look that so many girls love. It is an iconic location for a quinceanera photoshoot. There is nothing quite like City Hall that is free for the public.
CONS: It can be very crowded because it is a public building and it is a popular tourist destination. It is also a popular wedding location, so being patient here is key. It is also possible for City Hall to be used for private events, which we typically will not know about with much time in advance, which means the iconic staircase could be closed, or any of the floors could be closed. If this is 100% a location that you would want, there is a possibility that we would have to reschedule the photoshoot day if City Hall closes. This is also closed during national holidays.

Palace Of Fine Arts
City: San Francisco
Cost To Shoot: $0
Hours: Mon-Sun 24 Hrs.
Pros: This is an iconic location in San Fransisco. During the day it is beautiful, but in the evening is when this location really shines. The architecture is amazing and it is perfect for an elegant dress or princess style photoshoot.
Cons: The only big con for this location are car break ins. There are lots of signs around the area about smash and grabs. It is very important when going to SF, that there are no valuables in the car. Having someone stay in the car can mitigate this. We also require a group of people to be with us for a shoot here, just for safety purposes. But with these precautions it makes it safe to shoot at this location.

Pulgas Water Temple
City: Redwood City
Cost To Shoot: $0
Hours: Mon-Fri 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM
Pros: This location is beautiful when the lavendar blooms in June. It is a unique gem that is tucked away. It is about a 45 minute drive from SF and the parking is free.
Cons: This location is beautiful, but it just the temple with a shot by the pool. We typically don't spend more that 1 hour here, but it is a good stop if we are shooting nearby in Redwood City, or this is just a stop along the way to San Francisco.

Mormon Temple
City: Folsom
Cost To Shoot: $0
Hours: Mon-Fri 8:00 AM - 6:00 PM
Pros: The architecture in this location is really unique and the grounds are very well maintained. You are not required to be Mormon to take photos at this location.
Cons: There are no staircases at this locations, which is a popular request when we get asked for a location that has a princess theme. Also, this location is only outdoor.

Pros: The gardens of Filoli are incredible. You could easily spend 3+ hours taking photos at this location. There are some beautiful spots on this property that can't be recreated in any other location. It is perfect if you have a Secret Garden theme because the gardens are just that magical.
Cons: This is a museum, which means they are more strict with the rules here. We are not allowed to use our flash at this location, but we do try our best to make the photos look it. This is also a popular tourist location, so tickets can sell out.

White Swan Castle
City: Granite Bay
Cost To Shoot: $275/hr | 2 hr Minimum | $200 Deposit *price subject to change (Approx $700)
Hours: By Appointment Only
https://whiteswancastle.com/main-page

Timeline Samples
These are samples of real timelines from events we have done. What really dictates our start time is when we need to leave the house. This is determined by the time the church needs the quinceanera to arrive, the time the limo/party bus arrives, and the travel time to the first destination. If you do have church on the event date, this timeline is much more strict than if you have a blessing at the venue or no church at all. Schedules with no blessing or church are much more flexible, but we want to keep a good timeline so everything is done in a timely manner.

Let's Break Down Each Portion Of The Day
Under each title card will be the amount of time needed in the schedule to capture the moments
Getting Ready
1.5 Hours
We will be taking photos of details when we first get there. Which means the quinceanera does not need to be 100% done when we get there.
If you can please have these items set aside in a box in a room we will be taking photos of the dress :
- Jewelry
- Crown (if she doesn't have it on when we get there)
- Heels
- Chanclas of Choice (Boots, Nikes, Crocs, Jordans, etc.)
- Invitation
- Ramo/Boquet
Other things that are nice to have:
- Baby photo
- Natural Flowers
Some recommendations for the room where we are taking photos of the dress and the quinceanera:
- Make sure the room is tidy
- Some balloons are a lovely touch and look amazing in the photos (this would be set up the night before)
- Have the dress on the bed, no petticoat
We will provide the mannequin! Do not worry about buying one.
Some Things To Keep In Mind For The Morning
When scheduling out the order of who gets hair and makeup done, here are some things we suggest.
- Mom should be first with getting hair and makeup done so that she is ready for the photographs of helping the quinceanera put her jewelry on and giving her the last blessing before leaving. There have been several times where we arrive and everyone is done but the mom, which means those photos were unfortunately not captured.
- The quinceanera should have her hair and makeup 95% done by the time we arrive so we can get photos of the final touches and have more time with the quinceanera to do photos with her dress and interacting with family. There have been times where the hair or makeup artist has been behind schedule or arrived late, so always add about 20-30 minutes of time to account for any delays.
What The Quinceanera Should Wear With The Dress + Her Emergency Kit
After 4 years of events, we have seen everything. From bloody hips, to chafed under arm from the dress, to hair starting to fall out only an hour after the hair artist leaves. While we can't fix everything, there are ways to prep and mitigate the uh-oh moments and have the day go much smoother.
Under The Dress
- Wear spanx or ULTRA high waisted athletic shorts. And by ultra high, we mean have it go under the chest. The weight of these dresses is no joke and after hours of movement and wear, if she is not wearing something under the petticoat, there will be cuts and blood. We have seen this absolutely ruin a quince day, and we would hate to see that happen with something that is easy fix. We DO NOT recommend volleyball shorts or track shorts because they do not go over the waist enough and they tend to fall down. If you have a transparent bodice, choose one that is close to your skin color.
- DO NOT...I REPEAT...DO NOT wear a faja (waist trainer) under your dress that has a corset backing to it. We had this happen once and squished intestines with the nerves of the day and lots of coffee turned into a real life Bridesmaids moment. We understand you want to look snatched, but for the good of the quinceanera and the sake of the party, leave the faja at home.
EMERGENCY KIT
- Extra deodorant
- Body Glide (to prevent chafing) Especially if the dress has gems under the arms.
- Bobby Pins
- Safety Pins. Different sizes, and we have used these MANY times, especially if the dress is off the shoulder
- Socks
- Extra Brassiere (Especially if you are changing for a surprise dance, we have had damas looking for one to borrow from guests for a surprise dance)
- Nail Glue
- Eye Lash Glue
First Looks With Dad + Court
15 Minutes
The first look is always such a sweet moment to capture. Depending on the quinceanera, they can choose to do a first look with whoever they want, but our most popular requests are with her dad and her court, separately.
How we plan for this:
Typically both first looks are done pretty back to back. Most of the time, dad will do his first look inside and then we do the court first look outside. Of course, this depends on the day, weather, etc. but usually this setup works best.
We schedule the first look to be about 15 minutes before leaving. Starting with dad, after turning around and seeing his daughter all dressed up for the first time, he would do a quick blessing or a hug. Then, a couple of portraits and then we would set up the first look with the court.
If your court is not getting ready at the house, please, please have them arrive 20 minutes before the scheduled first look time. For those court members that you have a feeling will show up late, tell them to arrive 30 minutes before.
Immediately after the first look, the court will leave to the next scheduled part of the day.
Church
1 Hour
Typically the church wants the quinceaneras to be there at least 15 minutes before, but there are some that require them to be there 30 minutes before. Always double check to plan accordingly.
COMMON THINGS TO BRING TO CHURCH:
- Pillow
- Rosary
- Flowers For Virgen Mary
- Bible
- Jewelry For Blessing
Church Photos With Family
20 Minutes
After church we usually given about 20 minutes to get photos of the quinceanera with family and her court. We highly recommend having a shot list and also telling family ahead of time to stay near the altar after church to get those photos. If there is enough time we can have additional family take photos with the quinceanera, but we also have time scheduled at the party for those images as well. At the church we want to prioritize her padrinos, grandparents, great aunts and uncles, and immediate family.
Park Photos
45 Min
This time is when the quinceanera and her court can relax a little and have fun! The first 20 min we welcome immediate family and important family members to come to the park to get formal portraits. Then we focus on the court for the remainder of the time.
What Do We Do After The Park?
25-45 Min
After a long morning and lots of photos, the kids can head over to whatever location they want to get a fun treat. We know this isn't 100% necessary, but from experience, the kids do leave this time in such a good mood to the party. Maybe it was the sugar in the Starbucks or the fries at In-n-Out, but the kids are always more willing to take photos if they know they have a spot to eat to look forward to. Not to mention, most of them do not eat breakfast, so they are pretty hangry by the time we finish park photos. It is also great if you are renting a party bus or limo because it gives them somewhere to drive to before dropping them off at the venue. Keep in mind, limos and party buses have 4 hour minimum on weekends, so you want to take advantage of the rides!
When it comes to choosing a spot to go, it's really up to the quinceanera. There are times during the year where rain will make it impossible to take photos at a park, but we have found some good alternatives.
WHERE TO GO ON A SUNNY DAY - NO FOOD
- Dutch Bros
- Starbucks
- Boba
WHERE TO GO ON A SUNNY DAY - SNACK
- Ice Cream

Party Details/Decorations
15 Minutes
Family Photos At Venue
20 Minutes
Depending on the schedule, we typically will set time apart during the dinner hour for family and friends to take photos with the quinceanera. We will have the DJ announce it and this usually takes place on the dance floor or in front of a flower wall. We will usually schedule this right before the traditions start. It is important that the quinceanera eats as soon as the dinner hour starts so we can do these photos at the end of the hour.
The Traditions
10-60 Minutes
One of the biggest misconseptions we see at events, is how much time is scheduled out for the traditions. Typically, if everything runs in a sequence, the traditions typically take 10-15 minutes (including the speeches). What will make traditions last a lot longer would be dances with the padrinos of the event, but we recommend having all of the padrinos cycle through a song or two, so that the party can keep moving. There have been events where each padrino had one song, and it was about 30 minutes of just the dances. So depending on the amount of traditions, dances, and speeches, this section of the timeline can really vary. It is a good rule of thumb to schedule it out in a one hour block to get everything done. This includes the waltz and surprise dance. Anything longer than an hour seems lower the energy of the party, and it is important to keep those emotions high. One huge recommendation is to have either an MC (Master of Ceremonies) or a family member explain the significance of each moment. If you have hired an MC or one comes with your DJ, they will typically have a script that does explain everything to the guests. This allows the special moment of each tradition to feel more important, instead of just announcing them. It isn't necessary to do all of the traditions, but from a photography point of view, having those moments creates a lot of beautiful emotions that we can capture. We highly recommend doing the traditions.

THE LAST DOLL
The "Last Doll" in a quinceañera symbolizes the girl's transition from childhood to womanhood. It marks the end of her childhood by being her final toy, often given to a younger sibling or placed in a special spot. This tradition emphasizes the importance of family and the significant milestone of growing up.
CHANGING OF SHOE
The "Changing of the Shoes" in a quinceañera signifies the transition from girlhood to womanhood. During the ceremony, a family member, often the father, changes the quinceañera's flat shoes to high heels. This act symbolizes her readiness to step into adult responsibilities and new social roles.
gifts for the quinceanera
- Tiara: Represents her status as a princess before God and in her family.
- Cross or Medal: Symbolizes her faith in God, guiding her spiritual journey and moral compass.
- Bible or Prayer Book: Represents the importance of faith and religious guidance in her life.
- Ring: Represents the unbroken circle of life and her commitment to maintaining moral integrity.
- Earrings: Symbolize the importance of listening to God's word and the guidance of her family and community.
- Bracelet: Represents the unbroken nature of God's love and the bonds of family and friendship.
Each of these gifts plays a crucial role in the quinceañera's celebration, highlighting different values and aspects of her life as she steps into adulthood.
GIFTS THE QUINCEANERA GIVES TO FAMILY OR FRIENDS
Candle:
- Represents guidance and light provided by family members.
- Symbolizes ongoing support and presence in the quinceañera's life.
- Expresses gratitude for the guidance received.
Roses:
- Represent love and appreciation.
- Convey heartfelt thanks for the unconditional love and sacrifices made.
- Acknowledge the significant roles of family members in the quinceañera's life.
FATHER/DAUGHTER DANCE
MOTHER/DAUGHTER DANCE
DANCES WITH SPECIAL FAMILY MEMBERS
Waltz
5-7 Minutes
One big piece of advice would be to drill into the court and quinceanera is to smile. Have them practice smiling during the dance lessons. Countless times we see the kids looking really serious and stoic which doesn't look amazing in the photos. We want the kids to emote happiness, which we understand is difficult because they are nervous, but if they are practicing the smile during dance rehearsals, then they are more likely to smile during the performance.
Surprise Dance
5-7 Minutes
Cake Cutting
5 Minutes
You can decide if you want the cake cutting to be something done privately with just the media team or you can have the DJ announce the cake cutting so that the guests can sing happy birthday. The second option typically will give us a happier quinceanera, because she is getting to celebrate it with friends and family. We encourage fun candles to make the photos extra fun, like firework candles (if the venue allows it).
Things to have at the cake cutting:
- One small plate
- One fork
- Knife and Serving Utensil
- Candle
- Lighter
We encourage mom and dad to be a part of these photos, and don't be afraid to be silly.
Keep in mind, if you want photos of the cake and dessert table, please have a closed sign on your dessert table if they are setting up during the dances. If you have an outdoor venue and it is warm outside, have the cake out right before the cake cutting, we don't want melted cake photos.
